Employer Bulletin February 2024

This Bulletin is part of an ongoing series by Kraeber Law Office to provide helpful hints about developments in the law that could be relevant to your business.

1. The new paid sick leave enhancement that provides 40 hours / 5 days instead of 24 hours / 3 days for all employees that became effective January 1st is ridiculously complicated and new nuances continue to emerge.

2. Failure to correctly reimburse employees for expenses—including a portion of the cost of cell phones usage—continues to be a hot topic in Labor Commission claims and class action lawsuits.

3. Update your required postings; this should be done at least annually. Automatic services are recommended.

4. Pre-employment drug testing became trickier January 1st with the new law related to cannabis use off the job.
